It’s almost fall, which means that the hunting season is nearly upon us! If you’ve spent your summer in your RV, camping and adventuring, then you know how comfortable and secure it is to travel in. While you might think you’ve got to put it away come fall, the truth is that your recreational vehicle can be a real asset when you’re hunting. You’ll have a safe place to sleep, no matter how remote your camp is, and you’ll be able to take your companions with you for an exciting overnight trip, waking up bright and early to bag some game.

Not sure how to prepare yourself and your RV for a hunting trip? RVs and Boats For Less, located in Chubbuck, is your local RV dealer. We’ve provided this guide to help you prepare for your next hunting trip in your RV so that it goes off without a hitch.

Why Use an RV?

Well, the answer is that it will make for a much more comfortable and safe hunting experience than if you were tent-camping. And if you’re used to only being able to hunt close to home, then you’ll be able to travel much further afield and also stay out multiple nights if you wish. You can also visit multiple hunting grounds in one trip because it will be easy to pack up and transport yourself, your companions and all your gear.

Getting The Right RV

If you haven’t already purchased your own RV, then you’ll want to look for one that’s got features that will be useful to you when hunting. If you like to bring along powersports vehicles, for example, then you may want to look into getting a toy hauler that can carry those vehicles easily in its enclosed cargo bay.

Travel trailers and fifth wheels will give you spacious living quarters with the ability to drive your own truck. If you prefer something more basic, a pop-up camper is a significant upgrade from camping on the forest floor and it won’t break the bank. Consider where you’ll do your game-dressing and gun-cleaning and any other tasks that you’ll have to attend to on your trip, as well as the number of people you want to bring along.

Packing Your RV

You’ll need to pack your RV with everything you’re going to need on your trip. Consider where you’re going and what you’re hunting, so that you can pack the correct weapons for the game you want to hunt. Make sure that all of your weapons are stored empty and secure in a place where they aren’t likely to shift around as you drive.

As for the weather, temperatures will likely be cool, especially as winter approaches and particularly during the early morning. Wear sturdy hiking boots and thick wool socks, then layer up your clothing to keep yourself warm without overheating. Don’t forget to wear a fluorescent vest so that your fellow hunters can see you!

Make sure that you’ve got plenty of food to prepare and all the tools you need to dress your game. You’ll also want to have the usual safety equipment like a first-aid kit, an emergency radio and fire extinguishers. Having paper maps of the area(s) you’ll be in, along with a compass, will be a good fail-safe if your GPS or phone can’t get a signal.
